APRA proposes improvements to its Quarterly Authorised Deposit-taking Institution Property Exposures publication

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is proposing to enhance its Authorised Deposit-taking Institution Property Exposures (QPEX) Statistics publication from the December 2019 quarter.

The current QPEX statistical publication provides aggregate data for bank, credit union and building society commercial property exposures, residential property exposures and new residential loan approvals. The proposed improvements will incorporate more detailed data on residential property exposures and new housing loan approvals than in previous publications.

These changes follow the implementation of the new Economic and Financial Statistics (EFS) data collection from 1 April this year, which was designed to enhance data on key business metrics for authorised deposit-taking institutions (ADIs) and larger non-ADI lenders.

APRA’s proposal will be subject to a six week public consultation until 1 November 2019, and the updated statistics are expected to be released in March 2020.

Copies of the consultation letter can be found on the APRA website at Authorised deposit-taking institution publications refresh.
