Superannuation Data Transformation

APRA undertook a multi-year project to upgrade the breadth, depth and quality of its superannuation data collection.

APRA’s Superannuation Data Transformation (SDT) project delivered better industry practices and improved member outcomes by significantly enhancing the comparability and consistency of reported data. The project has made it easier to scrutinise and reliably compare fund and product performance, especially in the choice segment of the market.

APRA intends to divide the response for the SDT project Phase 2 into two releases with the first release in September 2024 to prioritise the data APRA requires on indirect investment costs and financial statements. APRA will then release a second response package later this year, covering the remaining topics of investments and RSE and RSE licensee profiles.

APRA will finalise the development of data collections under the SDT project by completing these consultation responses.  APRA will not develop further new collections under the SDT project for topics which had previously been in scope for Phase 2 of SDT. APRA’s focus as communicated in APRA’s Corporate Plan is finalising the response for indirect investment costs, financial statements, investments and RSE and RSE licensee profiles; and on the transition of reporting from Direct to APRA to APRA Connect.

The project timeline provides a view of the SDT collections development roadmap with finalisation of reporting requirements, and implementation (including industry build and commencement of reporting).
