APRA's Supervision Philosophy
APRA’s Supervision Philosophy sets out the key components of APRA’s supervisory approach and is aligned with its mandate, and vision for financial resilience and supervisory excellence. Central to the philosophy are three core elements – risk based, forward looking and outcomes focussed and these are supported by five foundational elements that describe the key areas of emphasis for supervision.
The Supervision Philosophy reflects the importance of supervisors exercising their professional judgement and sets the direction for the ongoing development of APRA’s supervision methodology – the frameworks, processes, systems and tools used to supervise the financial sector.
This document describes APRA’s Supervision Philosophy in more detail and will be further supplemented by material that shows how APRA conducts supervision on a day-to-day basis.
