Geoff Summerhayes appointed as new APRA Member and Helen Rowell appointed as APRA Deputy Chair

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has welcomed the Treasurer’s announcement of the appointment of Mr Geoff Summerhayes as an APRA Member for a term of five years from 1 January 2016.
Mr Summerhayes was most recently the Chief Executive Officer, Suncorp Life, a role he has held since 2008. Prior to joining Suncorp, Mr Summerhayes spent more than 20 years gaining property and financial services experience at Lend Lease, MLC and NAB. Reflecting his background, in his new role Mr Summerhayes will have a particular focus on APRA’s activities in relation to general, life and private health insurance.
APRA also welcomed the Treasurer’s announcement that Mrs Helen Rowell, who has been an APRA Member since July 2013, has been appointed as APRA’s Deputy Chair for the remainder of her five-year term. Mrs Rowell will continue to have primary responsibility within APRA for all superannuation-related matters.

It oversees banks, mutuals, general insurance and reinsurance companies, life insurance, private health insurers, friendly societies, and most members of the superannuation industry.
